Just idag jobbar vi med borttagande av förbannelser och renar folk som lider av negativa andliga influenser.
En del kanske undrar hur det går till, så jag ska försöka ge en kort förklaring.

Det finns många typer av förbannelser men det enklaste är att säga att de orsakar långa perioder av misslyckande och otur inom olika livsområden. Det kan drabba den fysiska hälsan eller psykisk och själslig hälsa. Det kan drabba ekonomin, oftast i form av att man förlorar sina inkomstkällor eller upplever konstanta blockeringar för pengar att komma in. Det kan naturligtvis drabba kärlekslivet. Oftast på det sätt att man inte lyckas behålla in relation någon längre tid eller att man inte ens kommer dit och går ensam.

Nu tänker en del; "Men sådant där är ju en naturlig del av livet och har säkert med helt andra saker att göra än någon förbannelse".

Ja, ni har helt rätt. Men kan ni skilja på det som orsakats av en förbannelse och det som har "naturliga" orsaker?

Den andra sidan av myntet är förutfattade meningar, felaktiga föreställningar och rena fantasier om vad en förbannelse är, hur det går till att utföra den och vad den ger för resultat.

Många tror att det krävs skrämmande attribut i form av dödskallar, svarta ljus och skumögda tokar för att det ska gälla för en förbannelse.

Andra tror att förbannelser yttrar sig i form av svarta moln och bevingade demoner som kommer sprutar eld. Ja, ni förstår själva. Dramat och föreställningarna kring förbannelser är förstås lika långt ifrån hur dessa saker ser ut i verkligheten, som stora scenen på Dramaten vid stor galapremiär är från en tandställningsgjutning hos lokaltandvården en gråmulen måndagsmorgon 06.30.

Ett bra exempel är det som i de flesta kulturer, inklusive vår egen svenska landsbyggd brukar kallas Det Onda Ögat. Det är troligtvis den lättaste formen av det som vi kan klumpa ihop i det moderna begreppet "förbannelse".
De vanligaste symptomen för människor som utsatts är huvudvärk (oftast i bakhuvudet eller nackbasen), ryggvärk (plötsligt uppkommen), matthet och plötslig trötthet.
I många fall också med en lätt metallisk smak i munnen på den drabbade.
Orsaken är andras starka tankar och önskningar. Oftast rör det sig om negativa tankar och avundsamhet, men det kan även vara obesvarad kärlek, stark längtan eller starka önskningar. I 9 fall av 10 är det omedvetet utsänt och den som skickar det är oftast helt okunnig om att det de gör orsakar skada.

Det onda ögat är lika vanligt som förkylning. I lättare fall försvinner symptomen efter en eller ett par dagar, men i svårare fall kan de orsaka tämligen stora problem under flera månader. I de mest extrema fall jag sett kan problemen sitta kvar i ett halvt liv och förstöra det mesta för en person. Låter det märkligt?
Det är det inte. Betänk att fenomenet är välkänt och synnerligen spritt över hela klotet och har varit en reell del av livet i flera tusen år. Låter det fortfarande märkligt? Ägna då 10 minuter åt att googla det och läs själv.
Är vi mer upplysta idag än de grekiska filosoferna var? Än vad merparten av alla folkslag världen över varit under flera tusen år? Nej. Vi är mer intresserade av prylar, teknik och maskiner och det finns ingen som får forskningsanslag för att forska kring "onda ögat".

Vad gör man åt det? Det varierar naturligtvis från kultur till kultur. Nästa gång du går in på en pizzeria, en tobaksaffär eller liten livsmedelsbutik som ägs av turkar, kan du hålla utkik efter väggprydnaderna. Ser du ett blått öga i glas eller porslin så vet du att här har man valt att skydda sig på traditionellt sätt mot alla typer av Onda Ögon. Du behöver inte leta länge för att hitta detta, det kan jag försäkra dig om.

Andra sätt involverar att bränna vissa rökelser, använda råa ägg (i sina skal), bada med olika typer av örter och mineraler osv.

Dessa metoder fungerar alldeles utmärkt mot lättare former av onda ögat. Men om problemet har fått sitta kvar under längre tid så går man till en doktor. Ja, inte en medicinsk doktor utan en Häxdoktor, en Klok eller vad ens kultur nu har givit för namn på en som kan handskas med sådant.

När vi får in sådana fall börjar vi med att ställa en diagnos. Om det visar sig vara troligt att det rör sig om onda ögat eller annan typ av förbannelse brukar vi titta på vilken metod och vilka material som är lämpliga för just den här klienten. Det finns en hel del att välja mellan och allt passar inte för alla.

Om inte personen inte har möjlighet att komma hit och få en rening på plats, så använder vi det som kallas "ett personligt spår". Någonting som varit i intim kontakt med personen i fråga. Oftast hårstrån eller ett använt klädesplagg. Enligt principen att detta fortfarande har en energi-länk till den det tillhör, röker vi det med olika örter och använder denna länk i olika typer av renande ritualer.

När det är gjort blandas traditionella örter och mineraler samman till bad som vi därefter läser över, ingjuter med lämplig energi och skickar till vår klient tillsammans med instruktioner om hur de ska gå tillväga med badet för att ta bort det som drabbat dem.

Om det finns personer i klientens omgivning som medvetet eller omedvetet har för ovana att skicka ut saker, brukar vi även rekommendera skydd av olika slag.
Det kan vara allt ifrån den sura svärmodern till grannar som rutinmässigt, skolat och målmedvetet kastar förbannelser och annat otyg på klienten.

De flesta förbannelser är lätta att bryta. Det är känslorna, vanorna och trosföreställningarna som ibland uppkommit som ett resultat av förbannelserna, som kan vara lite knepigare. Speciellt hos de som få ut en massa saker av dramat eller använder dramat som ett verktyg för att få uppmärksamhet de annars inte tror de skulle få.

Ja, det var lite om det. Nu ska jag gå ut och titta på hur ljusen brinner på altaret. De brukar kunna ge en bra vink om hur arbete på avstånd går och om man behöver lätta till eller korrigera något under vägen.

The Marketing Lies of Fake Professional Spiritual Workers..

Finding a reputable and ethical proffessional in the magic community is often very hard. If you conduct your search on the internet the chances are even higher that you will encounter a greedy money grabbing fake rather than a true practitioner.

Here are some things to look out for:

* Guaranteed success and results -
This is a scam. No serious doctor in the world will guarantee success of their treatments. Nor will any real spellcaster.

*Having a huge amount of titles, claimed educations and a vast area of varied expertise -
These are the ones claiming to be Hermetic magicians, Shamans, Traditional Witches, Necromansers, Voodooists, Rune magicians, and basically claims expertise is all areas of all cultural practice AND often add about 10 kinds of Reiki Master titles to that. These are the people who are good at reading books and taking weekend courses. Their knowledge is shallow and so are they. They are trying to impress you with words more than anything else. This is also a display of greed, so their prices will probably be high or in constant change upwards.
They are too impatient to learn just ONE path properly and they will probably be impatent with you as well. Consider the fact that it takes about 5-10 years to learn any profession. This is true of EACH of the magical paths as well. Imagine a person claiming to be a medical doctor, enigineer, economist, journalist and at least 5 other thigs at once. Did they truly study all these at once? No. Do the real Shamans, Magicians or Witches need a bunch of diverse titels if they are good at what they do? No. If you find this in a presentation of a professional magic practitioner be sure that they are looking to impress you with empty words rather that trust their skills. Those practitioner who do know a lot usually just want to help you rather than impress you and put up smoke screens. If you are thinking of hiering such a worker then ask them to name their teachers in each of their area of claimed expertise. You will see that these teachers will either be authors of books, people who give weekend courses or made up names. Ask if these teachers can verify the professional as a stundent of theirs and if it ok for you to contact the teachers or get verification of this. The professional who will not give you this is a fake.

*People who say that they started their practice as a child or at a very young age - Imagine this being claimed by a Surgeon, who played "doctor" or a carpenter who built a wooden shelter when they were children. If you see this in the presentation of the professional practitioner they are trying to impress you once again. Why? Because they are unsure and uncertain of what they are doing.

*People who brag about themselves -
They often enhance claims of them being "special", having powers beyond most other people. They often claim to be "chosen" in some way by spirits or people who is not accessible or verifiable by the client. They sometimes even claim to be "the best in their field". Compare this again to any other mundane profession. Would this happen in any other field? No. These are signs of a scam. Real practitioners do not brag. They do not need to. Real practitioners are not there to impress you. They are there to help you. Just like professionals in any other mundane field

*People who lean on the drama of magic - these people live and feed on your fears, hopes, dreams and beliefs. They usually do not care about you at all, but uses your drama to scam you of every dime they can. These workers are a danger to the client, and if they are actually doing any magic at all - a danger to themselves.
Be aware when a professional becomes exited and dramatic and builds on your drama. They are about to scam you. By carefully avoiding drama when telling a professional about your case the fake ones need to add their own drama to your story. Think of what the drama of magic focuses around - ”Black magic", "evil powers", "thunder and lightning", "Satanists", "demons" and god knows what. If such spices are added excessively to the replies of the professional - run. They are trying to snare you and your money.

The trickiest ones are those who actually have some minor gift or some knowledge that they use to impress others. It makes people without experience in magical matters assume that professional magical practitioners like the ones above truly are everything they claim to be.

The best way to avoid being scammed is to be careful and avoid professional magic practitioners or readers or any other kind of spiritual worker who use any of the above in their marketing.

Get verification! Ask the professional who taught them and where they learned it. Don´t be content with unverifiable sources or stories. Any serious professional will give you names and contact information to their teachers.

"Analytical Astrology" by John M. Hansen

I rarely find myself inclined to write book reviews of Astrology books. But this book is worth saying something about.

Most books on Astrology tends to repeat what others already said over and over again. For those of us with limited astrological knowledge this usually mean that we get a bit of general information about the characteristics of the signs, the planets the way that we born within any of them are supposed to be like. If it does not match the usually point at the more complicated aspects and other technicalities of the art. It is usually hard to find practical applications of this information and how to use it in mundane life.

Under the slightly dry title this book showed to be distinctly different in more than one way.

It does not attempt to flatter us or put astrology in itself as its main focus, but rather it gives information on what the stars and planets thinks is a waste of our time and energy. In a rather undramatic, dogmatic language it shows the futilities of each sign and provides us with the limits of our nature. Or rather the limits that we ourselves chose to have when we were born in a specific time and place.

By doing so it provides us with very useful information on how we can focus and be more successful by making us stop chasing rainbows and put our god given talents to full use.

I realize that the author and the inventors of the method has taken upon themselves the rather ungrateful task of presenting uncomfortable truths and by undressing unusual but very easy-to-spot characteristics of each sign. But once one gets used to the authors friendly undressing of oneself one may soon discover that there are some very interesting things under the clothes.

The book is a crash course in practical spiritual development through the eyes of astrology and I found it useful, delightly uncomfortable (as all naked truths are to a Virgo) and a gem among the coalmines of astrology.

Få pengarna tillbaka med hjälp av Trolldom, Häxkonst och Magi.

Då många undrar hur man bär sig åt för att försöka få pengarna tillbaka från någon som har en skuld till en eller som har stulit eller lurat en på pengar kommer här några tips.

Att bringa tillbaka stulet gods och visa och straffa en tjuv är ett av den nordiska trolldomstraditionens vanligaste syften och har så varit i minst 1000 år. För omkring 150 år sedan fanns det minst en professionell Klok i varenda socken och många erbjöd sig att försöka återställa förlorat gods, visa vem tjuven, få denne att lämna tillbaka det stulna och slutligen straffa tjuven ifråga. Idag finns inte så många som erbjuder den här tjänsten.

Den vanligaste metoden för att få tillbaka stulet gods, eller pengar var (och är fortfarande) att skicka onda andar, djävlar och allsköns obehagliga väsen efter tjuven. Dessa instrueras att plåga denne dag och natt och oavsett vad han eller hon företar sig, infinner sig varken ro eller lugn förrän det stulna givits tillbaka. I utbyte mot dessa tjänste betalar man djävlarna vid själva ritualen och i många fall än rikligare efter utfört uppdrag. Förr var saker och ting viktigare för överlevnaden och denna metod lämpar sig, i min mening, bara om det som stulits är mycket viktigt.

Kvalen tjuven kan utsättas för kan bli synnerligen svåra och den ”otur” som kan drabba den skyldige kan bli ödesdiger. I de kriminellas värld leder otur oftast till döden eller inspärrande och det är inte alltid de hinner betala tillbaka din skuld först. Så har jag hört i alla fall.

Inom den Afroamerikanska Hoodoo traditioner förekommer en liknande variant där man använder sig av ”The Green Devil” för att få tillbaka sina pengar. Oftast genom att tända ett ljus föreställande en grön djävul som är klätt med en magisk örtolja, under det att man bränner motsvarande rökelse och läser en bön riktad till ”Den Gröne Djävulen”. Proceduren upprepas i sju dagar och har man inte sett eller hört något från den som har en skuld innan dess, bränns den skyldiges bild och man låter man djävulen ta honom. En variant är att be den Gröne Djävulen att ta det som tjuven värdesätter mest av allt och hålla det borta tills pengarna eller det stulna återbördats.

En annan vanlig metod är att sända de döda att återhämta godset. Vanligtvis genom att plåga tjuven på en mängd mycket otrevliga sätt till dess de gör rätt för sig. I gamla dagar kunde detta gå till så att man lånade ett ben av en död på kyrkogården. Vanligtvis lånas detta på en bestämd tid och om man inte återlämnade det inom den utsatta tiden kom den döde och begärde sitt ben tillbaka. När man märkte att den döde kom, sade man åt honom eller henne att först se till att man återfick sitt stulna gods från den och den, eller det som stulits då och då etc. Först när det stulna var återbördat gick man tillbaka till kyrkogården med benet.

Idag är det inte lika lätt att finna ett ben på kyrkogården och metoden skulle ha brottsrubriceringen ”brott mot griftefriden” men idén lever kvar om än i anpassad form.

En tredje ganska vanlig metod är att mala. Det går till så att man använder en gammaldags, handdriven kvarn, placerar ett spår efter tjuven (något tjuven rört vid mm) i kvarnen och maler motsols tillsammans med formelläsning. Även den metoden utförs torsdagar. Gärna när månen är i nedan.

För att se vem tjuven var skådar man traditionellt i vatten, brännvin, källor och annat och metoderna är mångfaldiga. När bilden väl visar sig kan man sticka till med en kniv eller annat föremål tillsammans med en besvärjelse för att straffa tjuven eller dräpa tjuven. Metoden sägs ha varit vanlig i Finland och i vissa Samesläkten men förekommer i flera svenska svartkonstböcker.

Men den allra vanligaste metoden att straffa en tjuv, åtminstone förr, var att genomföra en besvärjelse som syftade till att slå ut ögat på honom eller henne. Det finns många sätt att göra detta, men alla har gemensamt att man utför ritualen en torsdag, man slår en spik genom ett öga och man läser en formel i Djävulens eller ”den ondes” namn och nämner tjuven vid namn (i de fall man känner till vem som är skyldig). I några fall riktas bönen till Jesus Kristus att han ska ge kraft åt Djävulen så att denne kan bringa tillbaka den som han råder över (här anses Djävulen vara tjuvarnas herre med andra ord).

Här är en uppsättning figurer för att slå ut tjuvaögon ur en norsk svartkonstbok från slutet av 1700-talet:

Metoden var så vanlig förr att en del kloka tillverkade speciella ”dosor”, som denna från Danmark tillverkad i början av 1800-talet:

Många av dessa metoder efterfrågar en rituellt tillverkad spik, medan andra hänvisar till en särskild sorts hammare eller att man använder en trolldomskniv.

Nästan identiska metoder har funnits kring medelhavet sedan antiken och förekommer i grekiska papyrusmanuskript från Egypten.

Att förbanna en tjuv och se till att han plågas och genomlider helvetes kval till dess han återlämnar det stulna är alltså den vanligaste metoden att handskas med saken. Att böna och be snällt återfinns inte bland de traditionella alternativen.

I dagens samhälle är det förstås också svårare när de största tjuvarna ofta är ”juridiska personer utan personligt ansvar”. Företag med andra ord.

Att handskas med dem är dock inte svårare än att inkludera deras logotype, företagsadress, ansvariga nyckelpersoner och de som fattat beslut i just din fråga. Alla företag anses efter en tids existens ha format en egen Ande. En del inkluderar även denna ande i sina besvärjelser genom att mana till sig den och be snällt, utlova en belöning (i form av mat, dryck eller likande) till Anden om den utför det du önskar (Andar av denna typ anses ofta vara pigga på den typen av avtal eftersom de sällan erkänns och ännu mindre ges belöningar).

De som utövar den fornnordiska formen av ”Nid” skulle sannolikt inte rikta sig vänligt till denna Ande eller de andar (Rådare, Vättar osv.) som rår på den plats där företaget ligger. Tvärtom är ett Nid syftat till att skrämma, skingra och i vissa fall plåga dessa typer av andar, vilket anses ge samma resultat för människorna i dess närhet.

Vilken metod man än brukar bör man kontakta den skyldige och be ännu en gång om sina pengar just efter man utfört en dylik besvärjelse. Vill man, kan man även tala om att man förbannat dem eller bjudit in Djävulen att festa runt med deras liv till dess de får pengarna. Om de hyser förnuftig respekt för dylikt kan det räcka gott för att de ska skynda sig att betala. Om inte får både du och tjuven vänta och se.

An odd Danish magical incantation against anger.

This formula, or incantation is read to remove anger. Or rather to "quench" anger or make it "less loud/less sharp" as the old Trolldom concept of "Doeva" really means.

Anyway, listen to this:

"I went near Pil (salix spp - a tree) and Pile branch
there I met Lord Jesus Christ,
He brought 12 angels
and one angel had 12 heads
and 12 tounges in each head:
With that I will end your wrath
and by Jesus hand
and Lazarus band;
you anger shall pass as dew for hot Sun.
In Name G.F + S + and h.G. Amen!"

The incantation is from a Danish Cyprianus book from late 19th century. Probably of medival origin, perhaps 14-15th century. But the concept of the odd angel and the 12 heads and tounges seem to me as either derrived from runic magic and pagan concepts or Cabbalistic numerology. There are other old Norse incantations to stop anger involving a dragons head also mentioning the tounge specifically.

Ah, I might mention that this kind of incantation is read when seeing the target, without them seeing you. (In person, not through a photo, video etc).

Norse Gods and Goddesses not very popular?

Odd isn´t it? That the so famous Norse Godesses and Gods did not leave a clearer trace in the Trolldom tradition.

Not until modern days that is. But then again, today the emphasis of "folk magic" is more a venue for amusement, "spiritual growth" and subcultural identification, rather than a method of increasing income, handling relations or removing destroyed conditions and the evil eye.

There is an abundance of ancestral veneration, use of the dead and all kinds of elemental beings and nature spirits in the same manner that has been praxis for at least 1,2 millenia but no gods or godesses.

Well, ok. It is not completely empty. There are rituals, timings, materials and some other things that has a clear connection to Thor. And a few to Oden. And Frigga. And Freja, yes. But the latter are a minimal amount.

If these large cults, described so vividly by people lika Adam of Bremen in the 11th century had been anchored among commoners and not so much an exclusivity of the aristocracy I bet we would have seen a lot more preserved in the rituals, spells and folklore of later days.

It can not be explained away with the introduction of Christianity and their profound was against hedonism. Of course Christianity spread from aristocracy down to all layers of Norse society, but that did not stop people from feeding the Tomte (the house elf). Nor did it stop us from giving votive gifts to other Elfs, or to the dead or to a host of other spirits of nature or guardians of certain places. It did not stop us from visiting the crossroads, the cemetaries, the earthbound rocks, the rivers and the streams. It did not stop us from ligthing the large bonfires at Easter,Valborg, May 1, Midsummer and so on. It did not stop us from celebrating both Midsummer and Christmas in a way that would make other Christian countries blush and cry "Pagans!".

Yes, one might claim that they have been hidden under noa names and people forgot what their real names were. Just like what happened with "Freya" (which means just "Wife" or "Our Lady") and a bunch other other examples.
Yes, many of them were bunched up with the Trolls, the mountain kings and yes, Oden got associated with the Devil and Frigga and Freya with St. Mary. But, as the case with other long standing traditions, this would not be the case if these divine beings were a deeply rooted part of the folk tradition. Thor survived, did he not?

My conclusion is that the others never became a steadfast part of folk tradition and died in the Ragnarok of cultural change.

Best books about real magic and spell craft.

One of the most frequent questions around is what kind of spell books are the best and where to find recipe books that will tell you how to make good incenses, magical oils and powders.

So, I will give some tips about a few less known books on the subject that I have found to be excellent.

They are all written by Draja Mickaharic, whom some of you might have encountered before through his excellent books on Spiritual Cleansing and numerous other magical subjects. He is probably the most underestimated magical writers of our time and catherine yronwood - the founder of the Lucky Mojo Curio Co. - once said that "He is the one of the most gifted conjurors I have ever met". In other words; his books is not bad.

The following books should be bought at Lulu Press, to make sure the main bulk of the money goes to someone taking care of the author himself and not to the publishing company.

First out is a book titled:

"A Magical Pie".

Underneith this anonymous title you will find professional instructions on how to use a variety of divinatory tools, several spells of unusual but very useful kind and excellent notes on techniques suited for a professional conjuror. The price for downloading this book is rediculous compared to the usefulness of the content; € 11.12 (98 kr). The price is almost insultingly low, but perhaps this shows a bit of how much money usually taken by the big publishing companys.

Second book out is:

"Materia Magica" .

The title speaks for itself, but perhaps one has to be a bit experienced to know the content of such a title. If you are interested in magical herbs, recipe collections and magical products this book should be a part of your collection. Besides this it will give the reader a good look into the products usually found in an American Botannica (a store for magical practitioners within Latinamerican magical traditions) and how to make the equivalents yourself. This book is probably not the first one a beginner would buy. But if it was they would at least start with some of the best magical recipets out there. The price is equally rediculously low: 13 EURO. (120 spänn).

The third, and last book in this collection of high quality magical books is probably the most controversial in its content;

"Magical Spells of the Minor Prophets".

This book may sound like a dry exposé of biblical magic and historical excerpts from the old testament. But it is definetly not.

This is probably the most comprehensive and useful book on cursing and punishing wrongdoers that exist on the international market today. It is packed with spells of a traditional cut - the use of powders, footprints, incenses and incantations. The methods are simple and effective. If christianity does not scare you and if you occasionally wish you had a few good tricks up your sleeve to put an end to abuse and wrongdoing- this book will will suit your needs.

Even though I do like all of Drajas books and know of the quality of his works, this book actually surprised me. It is not a book for beginners, nor for experienced practitioners. Unless in times of need and distress. If I knew what this book contained when I bought is, I would have been willing to pay 10 times the amount. Because this kind of material is usually either kept secret within living magical traditions or buried deep in the folkloric archives.

An unusual Troll board.

I made an odd find today, when digging in the National Archives for old Swedish spells and magical methods.

Have a look at this:

It is a "Trollboard". A board used for magic. But it does not say a word about how to use it or for what purpose it was used. The text reads: (from top left) "Explaination of some signs - The eye of Odin sees. The hammer of Thor has power. Through he cross of Frey in North and South - East and West".

The text to the right mentiones this board having been seen in the village of Iggesryd in Algutsboda in the 1880ies.

But that all it says. Judging from the circle to the right of the board, with the directions marked, it might have been used in divination. If so, it was probably used to find out the place where a malady had its origins.

The mentioning of Odin, Thor and Frey is unusual in this time period which makes the board even more interesting.

Sabbatical year off to a good start.

As some might know, I decided to make 2011 into a sabbatical year and not take on any clients at all. The reason behind this being an increasing inner urge to complete a series of meditations and follow wherever this urge seems to lead.
It is one of those things that just can not be ignored in the long run for a person of a spiritual character.

Besides that I was hoping to finish my book on the practices of Nordic folk magic as well. A project that has been going on for about three years now.
It would be fairly simple just to write a book by sharing my own practice and the things I have picked up over the years. But that would not be fair to the practitioners of the past and to the enourmous richness and beauty of a magical tradition that has been covered by a thick layer of dust in the public mind for too long. So, instead I decided to let the practitioners speak for themselves and seek out just the trick I use myself (and a host of others) in the folkloric archives and old folk magic conjure books of Scandinavia. The kind of book that I myself would want to read if I was scouting for knowledge about the magical practice of other cultures.

The selection of materials is almost complete now. The last (at least for this book project) will be a book that was translated to Swedish in 1650 and which became the "Mother of all Swedish conjure Books", as a newspaper article describes it in 1928. Stored in the archives of the Swedish Royal library for 361 years. Lovely.

Well, I know...it is not much in age compared to Chinese texts or the books of other cultures. But it is a substantial age for a North European book of magic. And for a lover of books, it is a treasure.

So, off to a good start this sabbatical year certainly is. :-)

The rootdoctors office.

Someone commented that we really should show some pictures of therootdoctor.se´s office. So here it is.

This picture shows the main altar. From the left lower there is a wooden box containing blessed salt. Then some custom made incense boxes, some reference papers etc. Hanging over the altar are some incense holders, for smoking items and individuals. The tree branches hanging are "Staemtraed", naturally grown circles. These are used in several ways in Trolldom. Above on the shelf we see a classic quija board, some parchement papers for writing name papers and talismans. The box contains different inks, stamps, laquers and other writing equipment. Then one of many mortars and some other items.

Another picture of the same. The middle shelf, from the left has a few old books, then a messy assortment of traditional resins (such as Asphaltum, Amber, Onycha, Elemi, Opoponax, Myrrh, Frankincense, Copal and Benzion etc). it also has a few cologne bottles with Florida water, Hoyts cologne and 4711. The top shelf contains a bit of the herbs and roots used in both Conjure, Trolldom and other traditions. The hanging bags are mostly animal curios, such as red fire ants etc. The horn nging to the right is used in anointing rituals.

Moving clockwise we see a small cabinet and hanging from that is one of the brushes used in cleansing rituals. Some may recognice the three chinese principals of Fuk, Luk and Sao on to of the cabinet. We then have and assorment of statues and other items used when casting different spells. A tripod, a Scyte, and some other items.

Onwards to the right. Here we see our desk, witha honey jar spell being prepared. In the window are a collection of custom made oils and some old scales. It also contains notebooks and collection of reciepes. We see a few fancy diplomas and some of the book shelves. On top of the lower shelf is an assortment of essential oils, some incense sticks in a box and the real computor of the house - the black board. If your name goes up on the black board, you are next in line to have your life changed. For the better, in most cases. :-)

Here is another picture taken in the window. On the large scale is some Devils Bit root on the left and some Master root to the right.

That´s about it for now. Perhaps I will show the candles, the oils, the herb storage, the amulet collection and the rest some other day.

Old style Scandinavian divination

In the Trolldom tradition, like in most other cultural traditions there are many different ways to divine the origins of a negative magical condition.

This shows a method used to find out the origins of the malady. This is commonly used when the client suffers from a curse (Swe: "förgjord"), the evil eye (Swe: "onda ögat"), having had his/her courage or power stolen (Swe: "modstulen"/"maktstulen") and alike.

One uses a sieve, and on top of that objects are placed that one suspects be the bad conditions place of origin. In this case it was a nearby lake, a piece of cloth from a mother-in-law, a stone from a special street and finally an object from the working place of the client.

A pendulum is then used to divine which place is the right one. The whole process is accompanied by a spoken formula, which is only disclosed if the practitioner wanted to give away his or her power to a younger apprentice.

Once the right place is found one uses the object in a cleansing ritual and have the client dispose of the remains at that particular location. The idea behind this is formulated in a saying: "Ta boten där man fått soten" - which roghly translates; "Take the remedy where you got the malady".

Another popular method is to divine through wich element the client got the problem.

It is done by taking one stone from the graveyard (earth), one from the top of a mountain (air) one fron the bottom of a stream (water) and one from the kitchen stove (fire - you need an old fashion stove of course). These can be named and baptized when picking them up. In that case one holds them in the left hand and baptize them in the name of each element. A formula can be read at this point, but not all old practitioners did that.

The stones are them placed on the sieve, like in the process before. Another formula is read and the divination begins.
Once one gets the right place, the stone is used to remove the malady from the client and the remains are placed in that particular spot, which returns the malady through this particular element.

The stone divination is often done by heating up the stones and throw them in separate buckets filled with water. The stone who makes the loudest fuzz when being dipped, indicates which element is responsible for the malady and the water is used to ritually wash the client. The remains are disposed of in the same place where one got that particular stone.

In a modern variety of this the same stones can be used over and over and only the water used in the ritual cleansing is disposed of. They seem to wear out after a certain time of use, and should then be replaced by another stone taken from a place of the respective element.

Music in the Nordic folk magic tradition of Trolldom

In a recent discussion with my friend Nagasiva Yronwode, he mentioned that folk magic should be percieved in the same manner as ethno music. It seems that the science of ethnomusicology has managed to preserve and define the originality of the music of different cultures in a way that should be applied to folk magic as well. In that way we might see an end of the dillution and destruction of delightful differences in procedures and spells done by the ravaging "popstar" authors of the western magical community.

It was in this context, I started considering the fact that there were some connections between Trolldom and naitive folk music that might be unknown to the general english speaking public. It is no treasure of knowledge, like hoodoo in the blues music of Southern US, but it is at least something there worth talking about.

In fact, the traditional music of Sweden is connected to the Blues through it´s similar folk magic rituals. I suppose most readers are familiar with the conjure concept of going out to the crossroads to meet the Devil, or rather the Black Man. This trixter spirit or semi-god, will teach the eager wannabe how to play his instrument. But with a prize. At least thats the core lore, right? If you unfamiliar with this I suggest we start with a short introduction:

So, with that said, lets take a leap in time and space and land in the rural countryside of Sweden in the 1820-ies. Music is always played live. There are no radios, no CD´s and definetly no way of axcessing Spotify. Imagine all people wearing natural linnen clothes and speaking in a language that sounds like singing a tune or constantly asking questions. Among them stands a fiddler, playing music that is so intense, so vivid that you just must dance and smile. So you dance, and you can´t stop smiling. The sweat starts pouring down your face while the tones from the fiddle goes wilder and more fanatic. You can feel the warmth and the humidity from the others around you. The smells of horses, grass cooling off from mid day summer heat, flowers of all kind, the sweet smell of green birches and a hint of homebrewn alcohol. You can not stop dancing no matter what. Panic is spreading throughout your nervous system and you meet the eyes of the fiddler. He smiles. And raises the tempo of the music. The last thing you recall seeing is the the sight of stars on a bright summers night. And then all goes black.

You just experienced a fiddler who learned to play from the Devil. Or, more likely, by the Naeck.

The legend of the fiddler learning to play by going to the crossroads and meeting the devil or by going down to a wild stream and being tought by "Necken", a River spirit and close ally to the devil, is well known to almost all Swedes. In most cases he is described as a Trixter spirit, who lures innocent girls (and others) into his waters to drown by erotic allures and beautiful music. So, if one wanted the skill of attracting and enchanting beautiful women by way of music (as well as "liven up" a party for all participants), Naecken is the one to go to. (By the way, "Naeck" also means "naked" in Swedish which may indicate how to approach him.)

One such procedure involves finding a suitable bridge and go there three consecutiveThursday nights in a row bringing three bones from a cemetary. If Naecken wants to teach you, on the last Thursday night you will start to hear music from the water undernieth the bridge. If you have the courage to stay put and listen to it and wants to become a master of your instrument, you will then need to sign the bones with your name using your own blood. This will be an agreement between you and the Naeck and the bones should be kept secret until the day you no loger wish to play.

Of course this kind of procedure is often covered with legendary and moralizing material, so you are either going straight to Hell after death (which was the common place for all who were not warriors, back in the days - The regions of the Godess Hel) or you might consider offering a nice and suitable gift to The Naeck once you are no longer in need of his services. Being a trixter, he is unlikely to give away his secrets without a hight prize, so you might want to think twice before signing the deal in your blood.

Here is a link to a nice article about Goose-Anders, one of the legendary fiddlers who, most likely performed this procedure. The article is in Swedish, (remember that google translate only makes sense when you are reading the text upside down or, possibly if you get very, very drunk.). There is even a special way of fretting a violin called "Trollfretting" (Trollstaemmning) or "Naeckafretting" (Naeckastaemmning). This kind of fretting is used when playing a kind of music called a "hinspolska" (The prefix "Hin" is another name for the Devil), a kind of melody strongly connected with the Devil or The Naeck.

It sequence is A-E-A-C#. The kind of melody often contains a lot of special effects such as left-handpizzicato´s. (I have no clue to what that means, since I am not a fiddler myself. But perhaps you know?).

Anyway it sounds like this:

Another one, with more suitable context is "Hinpolska". Performed here by Willie Toors:

There were other ways to learn from the Naeck as well. One way was to a crossroad on a midsummers night (notice here that the Naeck now has transformed from someone dwelling in the rivers and streams to something you can meet at the crossroads). At the crossroads you should start playing on a "Foerfiol" - The salted and smoked leg of a sheep. (The word "fiol" means fiddle or violin). It will not take long until he arrives and will teach you how to play. But the price might be "something over your head" - meaning your soul - so if you are smart you rise your pinky finger above the head when signing the deal and be prepared to loose it.

One of the special melodies, taught by The Naeck is the dangerous "Naeckpolska". The danger of this melody is that it is supposed to make people dance until they die. Well, perhaps if played by a fiddler taught by the Naeck himself, but not by these guys and girls in the Studentspelmanslag of 2006, performing a Naeckpolska:

But it has a certain catch to it, hasn´t it?
Well, it you are ever in the situation where you find yourself dancing fanatically into trance, led by a fiddler with hoof´s feet you might be in need of a classic rune formula, used to take the stings of a fiddle:

"- Så sant som Davids harpa klingar, så skall dina strängar springa i Guds Faderns, Sonens och Den Helige Andes namn."

In English:
"As true as the harp of David sounds, so shall your strings break in name of God Father, Son and Holy Ghost".

This formula was tried by F.L. in Bjursaker in the beginning of the 20th century. Unfortunally, it was early in the evening and all the fiddlers strings broke so the dance had to be cancelled that evening.

The Naeck is not always portraid in a negative manner. One beautiful text his love and longing for Freya is described. Since the most common legend about the origins of the Naeck and the other nature spirits are that they fell from heaven along with Lucifer, it might have a bit of real legend attached to it. But that I do not know.

One may note that this text was written by Afzelius himself and, being a member of the "Goethiska Forbundet" (a nationalistic group who, amongst other things gave the world the false image of vikings with horned helmets. All in the name of creating a stronger national identity for us Swedes) one could easily assume this text was nothing but mere romantic fantasies. However, Alfred was also a folklorist and gave out quite a few books on the topic of traditional songs. Among the contributors to these, and one of his friends one can find Herr L. F Rääf. The man who published the exccellent folk magic compilation of "Svenska Signerier och besvärjelser"... anyway...

So, once you learned how to play then what? In the Trolldom tradition there are some practitioners who were famous for using the fiddle music to break curses and reverse evil spells. Especially one man in the north of Halland who...well that story will have to wait I think...

A new kind of Hells Angel?

Among the oddities of life this story surely belongs.

A vivildy speaking man, whom had gotten some herbs from me a while back called me a few days ago to hear if I had some graveyard dirt. I said yes, and he said ok and told me he would call back.

Recently he called again just to thank me.
It turns out that this man sets candles for people and had himself a clients who had a debt to collect and was sincerely threatened by the person in debt.
It seems he just told the person in debt that he had contacted therootdoctor. The debt was settled at once and the threat was no more. It was a pretty large sum.

Is that a sign of a good reputation or a very bad one? I am not sure.

Writing on the book about nordic Witchcraft & cold

Slow day. Frost covering the trees and lawns. The lake is half frozen already.
On top of this a nasty cold has taken it´s grip on the family.

Still, the book on Trolldom - Traditional Nordic Witchcraft, is comming along fine. Working on the chapter on dealing with enemies right now. Nasty business. These curses are not for kids. Perhaps I will include som excerpts here on the blog one day.

Part of a Removing a curse.

It sure feels good when the curses come off quickly. The effect is always nicely dramatic for the client. The last one went from 15 years of hell to sweetly happy in no time at all.

But, mind you, she also followed the instructions I gave to the letter and was a schoolbook example of dicipline and determination. Full ritual hoodoo baths 13 days in a row, all taken before dawn, all tossed at the crossroad, fed and instructed her Toby and so on.

Well done!

Next one..hmm lets see what we got here.. - Family curse -three brothers in trouble for a long time. Might be a bit more tricky. Better to wait for the moon to turn for some more "oompf".
